Motivational interviewing is a communication strategy that can help individuals tap into their capacity for positive change. Moreover, the elements of motivational interviewing can help us be present and responsive during any conversation, in any area of our lives. In helping individuals create momentum for change, motivational interviewing can be especially useful in working with seemingly unmotivated clients on their own terms and in their own time. This 2 part webinar will describe and provide an opportunity to practice the fundamentals of motivational interviewing.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand the spirit, principles and strategies of motivational interviewing;
- Hone communication strategies such as affirmations and reflective listening;
- Notice and work with “change talk” as it emerges in discussion with clients.
